Harpsichords are an instrument similar to the piano. They were used regularly in baroque music. They have a tinny sound.

The birth of opera was in the baroque period. Opera is a play that is sung. One of the first Baroque Opera composers was Henry Purcell. The opera itself is made up of many pieces of music. Any conversation or thought process is communicated through song. Baroque opera is spilt into categories;
- Recitative- singing in a speech rhythm.
- Aria - a solo song.
- Chorus - a choir, group of singers.
- Dance - A piece of music without singing, people dance.
- Duets and trios - A couple or a few people singing.
