Classical Period

The piano was developed in the classical period. They overtook the harpsichord which was the other keyboard instrument of the time. The piano's correct name is the pianoforte. This means loud soft. The piano was a groundbreaking instrument because it could play loud and soft notes.

Classical composers phrased music evenly. A phrase is a section of music that has a natural ending.
